Dr. McDermott grew up in a small town in Iowa not far from Des Moines. He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, IA in 1982. At Loras College, he participated in football, track and field, and many other activities. Later on, he attended the Podiatry School at the William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago and graduated in 1986.
In 1987, Dr. McDermott completed a 1-year surgical residency in the Kankakee area where he met his wife. In the same year, he married his wife and moved to Tinley Park where they are currently living.
They have 3 children living in the Chicago area. He was a football, baseball, and soccer coach for many years but stopped when his oldest started college.
He opened his office in Orland Park in 1988 to be close to his home and serve his community. In 1989, he opened the South Holland office and in 1995 the Joliet office affiliated with Silver Cross Hospital was started.
Dr. McDermott has been a part of the Silver Cross Hospital staff since 1987 and South Suburban Hospital since 2000. Being Board certified in foot surgery by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery, he has worked in all aspects of foot care including ankle care and surgical treatments of the foot.
His greatest joy is providing immediate relief to patients that walk in the door in severe pain and the joy of wound resolution without amputation. Dr. McDermott also enjoys learning new technologies in medicine that aid healing.
